Damon McCoy, Titan of The Month, June 2025

I’m a man of many titles—son, brother, friend, husband—but being a father to my wonderful 2-year-old daughter is what I'm most proud of. I have accumulated over 12 years of experience in the logistics industry. Presently, I hold the position of an engineer for a major passenger railroad. Outside of my unorthodox work schedule, I value spending quality time with my family and friends whenever possible. I am a chill guy who appreciates music (90's Hip Hop & R&B specifically also known as the Golden Era), a good laugh, great food, classic mob flicks, as well as insightful self-help books or autobiographies. I believe the best lessons come from personal experiences. I enjoy reading or listening to others' experiences because they provide valuable insights for our own journeys.

What led you to try CrossFit?

I've been exercising for years, mostly stationary and compound movements, until 2019 when a family member returned to Baltimore from Florida. He introduced me to kettlebell and barbell movements, along with AMRAPS and EMOM workouts. I quickly fell in love with kettlebells and bought various sizes, eventually replacing dumbbells and barbells for years. I got in great shape with WODWELL workouts and a healthy diet. After some years, I grew bored of working out alone and decided to join a CrossFit gym.

Why do you continue to CrossFit?

Challenging yourself always leads to improvement, right? That's why I keep coming. We initially go to the gym to become a better physical version of ourselves. However, my reasons for continued attendance are far more profound than the physical aspects.  My growing love for CrossFit, its positive impact on my life outside the gym, the amazing people I train with, and the supportive coaches.

Describe how your attitude towards health and fitness has evolved since you began your journey.

The most significant change is my attitude toward my stretching routine. Before starting CrossFit, my stretching was elementary. I consistently performed the same stretches, regardless of the workout planned for the day. I have gained more knowledge and continue to learn as I develop.

Share a memorable CrossFit moment that makes you laugh or puts a smile on your face.

A memorable moment that often comes to mind when bench pressing or squatting involves my fellow Crossfitter, Tom. He once told me, "Damon, put some more weight on there, you're playing around." Unaware of my own strength, I hadn't used a barbell in years. Now, whenever I add weight, I hear Tom's encouraging voice.

What are you proud of and why?

The Murph Challenge is a common workout performed in CrossFit. This year, I finally did Murph. After years of making excuses, I completed it and did well for my first try. I'm excited to do it again next year, this time with a vest!

What's your advice for other CrossFitters or people looking to start?

Show up and take care of yourself so you can show up and take care of the people you love the most. Make the time to come (it’s the only hard part lol) and when you do come don’t ever half step, give it your all!

Why the coaches chose Damon as Titan of the month:

Damon has been part of the Titan community since January 2025. From day one, it was clear he brought strength and a solid engine to the table. What he didn’t have yet was experience in gymnastics and Olympic lifting—but rather than be discouraged, Damon embraced the challenge head-on.

Consistency has been key to his progress. Through regular attendance and a willingness to learn, Damon has steadily developed the skills he once lacked. For new members who come into CrossFit already strong and fit, one of the hardest things can be leaving ego at the door. Damon has done exactly that. He approaches each class with humility and has never tried to push beyond his current abilities or skip the necessary steps in his progression.

In class, Damon is focused and coachable. He listens closely to feedback and takes direction seriously. Even when suggested weights or modifications mean lifting less than he’s capable of, he follows through—knowing that proper form and movement mechanics come first. That mindset is paying off, as his improved technique is now allowing him to lift heavier loads with confidence.

Damon’s humble and quiet demeanor speaks volumes, but his pride in his own progress is still evident—whether it’s a smile at the end of a tough WOD or a nod when coaches challenge him to take on more. Beyond the workouts, Damon has connected with fellow members, sharing conversations about fitness and life alike.

Thank you, Damon, for being a part of the Titan family. Your dedication, humility, and steady progress are an inspiration to everyone around you.
