What led you to try CrossFit?
I started CrossFit after moving to a new city where I knew nobody. I felt that I was getting bored of my workouts and was looking for a sense of community and challenge. The only gym in the area was a CrossFit gym so I figured it was worth a try!
Why do you continue to CrossFit?
I love how different the workouts can be and how even after years of doing CrossFit, I still feel challenged every day. It's really cool getting to see progress with specific movements or just in a workout in general. When I first joined CrossFit, there were so many movements I thought I would never progress to doing that I now can do during a WOD. I also think it's hard to think of CrossFit without mentioning the community it brings. I love the sense of community I've been building since joining Titan CrossFit.
Describe how your attitude towards health and fitness has evolved since you began your journey.
I'm a hospital based physical therapist where I work with people every day who have lost their ability to move their body. I think movement and exercise is such a privilege, and I think the challenge of CrossFit reminds me of that privilege and how fun it is to move your body. I think within my own personal fitness journey, CrossFit has taught me a feeling of internal motivation that I didn't have previously with exercise. Each day is an opportunity to get stronger or move better, and I love that.
Share a memorable CrossFit moment that makes you laugh or puts a smile on your face.
At one of the first gyms I joined there was a small group of women who consistently went to the same class. We loved supporting each other during our lifts and workouts, celebrated each other's PRs, and made sure we always kept class fun. It always made me happy knowing I was going to workout with others that supported each other so much!
What are you proud of and why?
I'm proud that I've stuck with CrossFit. In the beginning, it was easy for me to look at all of the more experienced athletes in class or see the more advanced movements and be intimidated. I am now doing things I didn't think I would ever do. Just the other day, I kicked into my first handstand on the wall (with a lot of encouragement from coaches and the 4:30 class). It was something I never thought I would do and gave me such a sense of accomplishment.
What's your advice for other CrossFitters or people looking to start?
Just start! The challenge of CrossFit is always there, just changing as you progress. It's so worth it.
Why the coaches chose Alexa as Titan of the Month:
Alexa is the kind of athlete every gym would be lucky to have. She shows up ready to work, isn’t afraid to ask questions, and is always looking for ways to improve. Whether she is dialing in her technique, chasing a new skill or celebrating a big lift, her enthusiasm is contagious. She puts in extra work outside of class, and it’s been awesome to watch that dedication turn into real progress.
Just as important, Alexa makes Titan a better place. She’s welcoming to new members, appreciative of her coaches, and brings positive energy to every class. Her hard work, coachability, and support for those around her are exactly what the Titan community is all about.
