Hi Titan Family! I’m Sarah, and I’m super excited to have been chosen for Titan of the Month. I grew up in Ellicott City and moved to Cockeysville about two years ago. I live with the best coach at Titan, Patrick, who also happens to be my husband. I am currently an anesthesiology resident at the University of Maryland.
What led you to try CrossFit?
I first tried CrossFit in college. Patrick and I worked together and he invited a few co-workers to try a class. Little did I know he thought a great intro class would be an open workout with wall walks and double unders! After laying on the ground for half the workout and watching him scale the wall, I can’t say I was sold. But it was shortly after the shirtless wall walking performance that we started dating. Patrick abandoned his own programming to attend classes with me whenever I wanted, and I fell in love (with CrossFit 😜).
Why do you continue to CrossFit?
My motivation to continue CrossFit has been far from perfect, but what has kept me coming back is the incredible community. Titan has become our family. Medical school and residency have brought some of the most difficult and exhausting seasons of my life. Throughout the journey I always knew I could walk through the doors of Titan to find support, encouragement, and a few laughs! We recently navigated an incredibly difficult time and Titan was a safe space to escape. I couldn’t think of a better place to go when I was at one of my lowest points, and I was met by a member who provided unwavering love and guidance. The relationships keep me coming back!
Describe how your attitude towards health and fitness has evolved since you began your journey.
I played sports my entire life and finished off my career with collegiate volleyball. After I stopped volleyball, CrossFit provided an awesome space for a great workout along with a competitive environment, which I love. It is inspiring to be surrounded by people who recognize the importance of movement for longevity.
Share a memorable CrossFit moment that makes you laugh or puts a smile on your face.
I have so many memorable CrossFit moments! Something that puts a smile on my face and usually ends in laughter is when Coach Randi asks her question of the night. I appreciate the opportunity before class starts to slow down after a long day and have a moment to connect with classmates. I have learned a ton about our members.
What are you proud of and why?
I have recently been working on my pull-ups and handstand pushups, and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made! I have sets goals with Patrick and he’s helped make them happen. The best part of this community is that numerous coaches and members have jumped in and shared their tips or tricks when seeing me struggle. How lucky am I to be surrounded by a wealth of knowledge and skill.
What's your advice for other CrossFitters or people looking to start?
My advice for other CrossFitters is to find your why. It doesn’t have to be that you want to be the best athlete in the gym! For me, I keep coming back to Titan for the people. I love getting in a good workout but I find it much more enjoyable when I’m doing it next to some of my best friends.
Why the coaches chose Sarah as Titan of the Month:
For the past two years, despite working 60–70 hour weeks, she has consistently made it to Titan three times a week. She’s even managed to avoid her annual hibernation! She has truly made it a priority to be at Titan whenever she can, because it’s so much more than a workout for her. Titan is both a mental and physical release—a space she genuinely needs and deeply values.
Sarah has also built and maintained so many meaningful friendships through Titan, and every time she’s there, she continues to strengthen those bonds. Even after a long day at work, she’ll stay late to walk with a friend, hop on a bike, and catch up, or simply spend a little more time with the people who have become such an important part of her life.
Sarah truly embodies the community aspect of CrossFit. And while she may not have the “perfect” workout schedule, I think that’s exactly what makes her such a great example of commitment and consistency over perfection. She shows up when she can, she keeps coming back, and she makes the most of every moment she’s there.
