My name is Gigi, and I’ve lived in the Baltimore area for about 14 years. I’ve been a member at Titan for three years. My hobbies include playing video games, rolling low initiatives in D&D, and staying up too late sewing cosplay. My favorite CrossFit movements involve anything with a barbell.
What led you to try CrossFit?
My sister has been doing CrossFit for 10 years. She took me to a class when I visited her in New Jersey a few years ago, and when I decided to start my own fitness journey, I knew I wanted to find a box here in Maryland.
Why do you continue to CrossFit?
I love the variety of the WODs; I’m never bored! The community is also incomparable. Having friends and peers cheer you on during a big lift makes all the difference.
Describe how your attitude towards health and fitness has evolved since you began your journey.
I was very nervous during my first class at Titan. I wanted to get in shape but was anxious about being labeled the "non-athletic girl." Thankfully, that wasn’t the case at all. Now, I feel very confident in my movements and mobility, and I’ll take any chance I can to put more weight on the bar.
Share a memorable CrossFit moment that makes you laugh or puts a smile on your face.
Definitely watching Coach Dave C. dance to Cascada’s “Everytime We Touch” while fist-bumping the class as everyone lay on the floor after a WOD.
What are you proud of and why?
I’m proud of myself for sticking with it. I’ve tried many times before, but my previous chain-gym memberships usually only lasted a few months. I’m officially hitting my three-year mark with Titan!
What's your advice for other CrossFitters or people looking to start?
Don't hesitate to adjust the workout to your level. You might feel like you should be pushing for Freedom or Independence, but don't force movements if they feel unfamiliar. CrossFit is accessible to all fitness levels; knowing I can scale any workout to suit my abilities makes me feel welcome and accepted.
